I have to say that I am quite a fan of Costco and in particular, their own brand of products under the Kirkland banner! I am always open to trying new brands and new products – it is not always successful but when you do find something that’s good, you simply have to tell everyone about it!
I decided to try out the Kirkland brand of French vodka. It has often been compared to Grey Goose vodka which is triple distilled, although Kirkland is five times distilled. Having done some research, I have found that both vodkas are made in the Cognac region of France. Both Kirkland and Grey Goose are made in Cognac with distillation techniques sourced from the neighboring Cognac houses. The vodkas are distilled in state of the art distilleries. Both are made from 100% fine French wheat. Both use pure artesian spring water originating in the Massif Mountains of France. This water flows into cognac after being filtered naturally through champagne limestone leaving it rich in minerals and flavor.
Although similar, they are different. In my view, the Kirkland vodka, for its price, is a great vodka to drink neat as it is smooth, with no burn and it tastes pure. In comparison to other brands of a similar price, it is far superior in quality. It is also a great vodka for mixing with soda water, tonic or in cocktails. It has certainly become my vodka of choice as a basic house spirit!
