I discovered Bass & Flinders distillery on the Mornington Peninsula, Australia quite by accident whilst at a recent truffle festival. They were represented at the festival with their Truffle Gin which was available for tasting. I had tasted an experimental truffle gin made by a Sydney company the previous week and liked the taste but was disappointed it was not available commercially. And then I discovered this. As a gin, it is smooth on the palate, the aromas are not too strong and the truffle flavour is not too over powering. I liked it neat or with just a hint of tonic water – you need to be careful which tonic water you use as many are simply too sweet an the flavours do not mix well. Fever-Tree do a range of different tonic waters that are worth trying with different gins. Their Indian Tonic Water works well with this gin.
